| Obviously, when I see that the name of a band is KAUAN I immediately associate it with TENHI, and is this case the influences are real. Initially they can seem excessive, but after two or three listenings the poetry of KAUAN starts to write its own lines and then all are new details each time I put this cd in my cd player. The music is melancholic and limpid, vocals exist but we find ourselves more often in the middle of long instrumental passages and this reinforces that sensation of cold solitude. As own elements we can cite many; the piano melodies are beautiful and this in conjunction with some string arrangements gives the music a very distinctive elegance, music has in general a strong body where maybe only violins are the crystal while the clean but big piano notes fall over the rest of music as cold water drops and clean other more dense or saturated parts with pure sonorities and emotions. Stylistically they are maybe more diverse than Tenhi, their music is like a pure surface, mysterious but beautiful and sometimes wild; the use of progressive and metal elements is different and more abundant; other elements are dark and atmospheric sounds and some tribal sonorities, the ocassional vocals can go from peace to ceremony or a kind of Russian solemnity specially in the choruses, there are also one or two moments for guttural vocals which are superb. Even if they only would sound as Tenhi the tracks would still be totally excellent, but they add own ideas so they are two times marvellous. So please, which so rich and wide compositions try to forget the name Tenhi and see them only as KAUAN. |
